This is a quote my friend Gordon found from the Book: "The Method as Means: an Acting Survey." by Charles Marowitz. London 1981:
"To the Actor the success of one's acting will be directly related to the number and variety of pretensions the actor eliminates in himself. Negativism is a positive force in acting theory. An actor rarely learns what to do; he is always learning what not to do. Therefore, the actor must cultivate outspoken and perceptive critics. His director and own self awareness must act as a constant Geiger counter detecting every trace of hollow theatricalism, unfelt emotionalism, and practiced mannerism. The apprehension of each acting cliche must be marked by a public execution; the actor must know what is being destroyed and why. Only then will he be able to replace it with something valid."
